The Florida Historical Society

Established in 1856, the Florida Historical Society is the oldest cultural organization in the state. The FHS statewide headquarters are located in the quaint historic district of Cocoa, Florida, in a 1939 WPA-era Post Office that now serves as the Library of Florida History. The library archive contains thousands of rare and out-of-print books, maps dating back to the 1500s, more than 12,000 historic postcards, photographs, private papers, genealogical records, and much more. The basement of the building serves as production studios for Florida Frontiers: The Weekly Radio Magazine of the Florida Historical Society and the television series Florida Frontiers. The FHS Press publishes about ten books per year from this location. The store “Florida Books & Gifts” is also located in the FHS headquarters, where visitors can find the perfect Florida souvenir.
