Sutter's Fort State Historic Park

Located in the heart of Midtown Sacramento, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park is both a California Historical Landmark and a National Historic Landmark.

Set in 1846, Sutter’s Fort is a living history museum that preserves important California history and tells the story of the many peoples and cultures that inhabited Sutter’s Fort and the surrounding areas during the 1840s -- including Mexican citizens of Alta California, European and American pioneers, the ill-fated Donner Party, and Native Americans.

Park Hours:

  • Open daily from 10am to 5pm
  • Tickets sold until 4:30pm
  • Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day

Special Information:

  • Interpretive “Hands-on-History” events are held on the third Saturday of every month and include demonstrations of cannon and black powder weaponry.
